Dear Friend,
Well it’s good to see you again! And for those who are new, welcome to Notes on Images.
It has been a while since I wrote something (over a year…). In these letters I will update you on projects, write down general thoughts about photography and film or whatever I come up with. The initial idea when I started with this newsletters was to write down a letter every month. Well, I didn't succeed in that… and to be honest probably won’t this year. And that’s completely fine! But I will keep posting every now and then one. Just when I feel like I have something to tell, I will release a new one. Could be every month or every year. We will see!
Now that is said. It is time for this volume. A very exciting announcement!
I am really excited to announce that my new website: https://www.goitzenvanderveen.com/ is live now! The last few weeks me and (especially) Germ van der Veen worked hard on building the new website.
In this letter I want to break down a bit on the process of building it.
The first step was finding the overall theme in my photography. This is the base of building a website. Asking questions to myself about who I am as photographer, endless scrolling through my work, looking at prints, debating with myself, I realized there’s one theme that comes back in my portrait, documentary or street work: Personal narratives. This is something I firmly believe in that everyone possesses a story that has potential to inspire at least one other.
With the theme in mind we started to build the website and pick out photographs that would fit. For me it was important to have a website that was clean and easy to scroll through to get a glimpse of my portfolio. This is where we came up with the idea to show the website as a sort of gallery. A simple and clean design that fits the black and white photographs with minimal distractions of buttons and text.
This all together made how the website is now. And I am really happy with it! I think the photographs stand out one by one, but also tell the overall story of personal narratives.
I am curious what you think of it? Let me know!
And on that note; With the new website live! I am also open for new work! Do you have an idea for a project? A company who could use new portraits? Or something else you want to discuss? Let’s get in touch!
Well that’s it for today. Hopefully you now have a little inside on the proces of building the new website.
Have a good day, evening or night and remember to always let yourself be inspired!
Much love,
Goitzen van der Veen
